Top 10: Maybelline

maybelline favourites

Maybelline is one of my favourite drugstore brands, second only to Rimmel. It has some amazing products that are cheap and they are worth every penny and more. I have shared a few other top picks from some drugstore brands so far on my blog (Rimmel and L'Oreal if you fancy giving those posts a read) and I wanted to continue on and showcase one of my favourite brands.

So, without further or do, here are my top 10 Maybelline picks (they aren't in order by the way. It was hard enough picking 10, let alone putting them in order):

1) Dream Fresh BB Cream
I love this BB Cream, and it is one of my all time favourites. I think I like the Rimmel BB Cream a little more because it has a little more coverage but if you need something that can even out skintone, correct redness and hydrate the skin this BB cream is for you. It doesn't have the highest coverage, and it isn't going to perform miracles but it's a nice western BB Cream. I use this alone with a higher coverage powder or concealer, or I use it as tinted primer under foundations. It works great in both ways, and for only £7.99 it's really worth it.

2) Master Drama Kohl Eyeliners
If you want something cheap, that is going to perform like the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Liners then look no further. These Master Drama Kohl eyeliners are pigmented, long lasting and really creamy. They don't tug on the eye in any ways. They blend well if you want to smudge them out but they set and last all day. I use them on my waterliner and as liner along my top lashes and I can't fault them. They are about £4.99 I think, and they have a few colours. They only thing I wish they would do is release more of a shade range.

3) Colossal Volume Express Cat Eye Mascara
I love the colossal volume express cat eye mascara because it gives a bit of everything. The curved brush does help with curl, the formula is really black and stays put really well and you get length and volume. It's not as voluminous as some of the other mascaras from Maybelline like the Falsies or the new Go Extreme Volume Express. It does give better separation  and length than those formulas though. The packaging is nice, much like all other maybelline mascaras and it's no to expensive either.

4) Instant Age Rewind Eraser Concealer
I really like the Instant age rewind concealer, and would love to try the radiant shade they have in the US. I like the packaging, even with the sponge that so many complain about. I prefer the sponge to the brush tip applicators on concealers like the Dream Lumi. I like the formula because it covers, stays put, doesn't crease (on me at least) and it matches my skin tone. I find it great for under my eyes, for redness and on blemishes, and I find it works really well over most foundations. It's £7.99, so similar to other under eye concealers and it is free from shimmer and glitter too which I love.

5) Dream Satin Liquid Foundation
The dream satin liquid foundation is one of my all time favourite foundations, probably coming 3rd after double wear from Estee Lauder and Wake Me Up from Rimmel. I really like the shade light porcelain, but I can pull of Ivory too. The undertones are great for my skin, but for someone with really yellow undertones the shades might not work brilliantly for you. The formula is quite thick, but it doesn't feel cakey on the skin. It covers my redness really well, gives a nice dewy (but no to shiny) finish and with a light dusting of powder I find it stays in place all say. It layers well with concealers and blushes etc without caking up and it's only £7.99.

6) Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner
The gel eyeliner is the best gel liner I've tried from the  drugstore. I like the packaging, the brush and the formula. It is really pigmented, long lasting, non-irritating on the waterline and tight liner and glides on. It is really creamy, and fluid enough to create a nice line free of bumps. The packaging is a nice frosted glass jar with a sophisticated sliver top, the brush allows you to create a thin or thicker line on the top lash line and it does work for placing product on the water/tight line.

7) Baby Lips Lip Balms
I love the baby lips range from Maybelline. The balms give you a sheer tint of colour, smell lovely, look super cute and don't dry out the lips. I can't say that they are the best lip balms for solving dry lip issues, but the coloured formulas are nice if you do have chapped lips. The red (cherry me) is my favourite, with the peach kiss being a close second.  They both smell amazing, and taste good too. They are super cheap, and great for lip product newbs and for those who want something more sheet.

8) Mega Plush Volume Express Mascara
Maybelline Maga Plush might be my favourite Maybelline mascara. It has a huge wand, and it is quite flexible. The brush is bristle, rather than plastic spikes. It is almost oval in shape, with the tip and base being smaller than the centre. It stays on my lashes all day, without flaking or smudging. It's a nice black colour, and gives my lashes good length and volume. It holds a curl, even though it's not waterproof and it doesn't clump them up at all.

9) Fit Me Concealer
The Fit Me Concealer is one of the best I've ever tried. My all time favourite is the Collection Lasting Perfection Concelear, but this is a close second. It isn't quite as long lasting as the Collection, but it doesn't dry as matte as the Colleciton. I can use this on blemishes, redness and under my eyes, whereas the collection alternative cannot be used under my eyes. The only thing I have to complain about is the shade range but I can just about get shade 15 to work for me so I can't complain to much. It covers well, lasts ages, doesn't cake up and is really cheap.

10) Colour Tattoo 24 Hour Cream Eyeshadows
I'm not sure that I need to day anything about these because everyone and their little puppy have raved about these. They are long lasting coloured cream eyeshadows that can be used alone or as a base for other shadows. They are a nice gel-cream forumla, nicely pigmented and last all day without creasing. I will say that if it is really hot, and I haven't set them with something I can see a little creasing but that is very rare. I wish the UK has more of the US colour selection, and I can't wait to try and get my hands on some matte shades.

Top 6 L'Oreal Cosmetics Favourites

So, I've started a series on my blog documenting my favourites from a range of popular drugstore brands. I started with Rimmel (READ HERE), and today I have L'Oreal. I've just focused on cosmetics here, but if you want some skincare picks please let me know.

So, lets get on with the top 6:

loreal favourites

1) Glam Shine Lipgloss
The Glam Shine Lipgloss are some of my favourite ever. They have a really good formula, and the applicator  is great. The formula is not sticky at all, the perfect amount of glossy and it sits nicely on the lips (especially if they are dry).
I love the shade Rosewood Blush but the formula is great so if you want something other than a nude you can find something for you.  You can see it swatched here in my Lipgloss collection if you want to see the shade.

Apparently Cheryl Cole is a huge fan of these glosses, and you can read about her favourite shade here

2) GlamShine Stain Splash
The GlamShine
Stain Splashes
are one of the new crazes in makeup. The product lasts a long time on the lips, and is accompanied by a nice glossy finish.  They are very similar to the YSL Glossy Stains so if you want to try those, maybe pick there up here first to see if you like the texture and idea of a glossy stain. They last a long time, like they are meant to, don't dry out your lips to much and have a nice scent. The forumla is buildable, so you can get a sheerer or more bold finish. You can see the shade Eve featured here, but please ignore the review. I take back everything about it because it was user error that made me dislike the gloss stain, not the product itself.

3) Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer
The Lumi Magique Pure Light Primer  is a gorgeous offering from L'oreal. The primer isn't to silicone-y like most primers, but it does help a little with lasting power. It gives the skin a metallic quality when alone, but with a foundation or bb cream over the top it just gives the skin a gorgeous luminous quality. It is a little more on the expensive side for a drugstore primer, but it can be used as a primer, mixed in with foundation or as a highlight over foundation so you have a few products in one here, so the £9.99 is worth it. You can pick it up at Boots and Superdrug if you want to give it a go.  I featured this in my top 3 highlighters post here, if you want to give that a read. I goes into a little more detail about why I love it, so it might be worth a browse if you are thinking of picking this up.

4) Mega  Volume Miss Manga Mascara
The Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara  is my favourite mascara at the moment. I love the colour, I love the lasting power and I love the wand. The wand is probably the most unique thing about the mascara. It's a nice cone like brush that enables you to get all your lashes and it's really flexible. The colour is super black and it lasts all day on my lashes without flaking or smudging. It's only £8.99, which is on the cheaper side for L'Oeal Mascara and for me it's  the best one they do. You can also get other colours besides black which I really want to try. I think they have a turquoise and a purple, which are also only £8.99.

5) Colour Infalliable 24 Hour Eyeshadow
The Colour Infalliable 24 Hour Eyeshadow are a unique type of eyeshadow for the drugstore. They have the pigment and texture on the eye as a loose pigment but they have the convenience of a pressed shadow. They can be used wet and dry, they stay place in all day and they don't crease. They are insanely pigmented and only £6.99, but are worth so much more. You can see the shades they have here in the UK here if you fancy, but I really want to get my hands on some US shades because they look beautiful.
I have a review of the shade Endless Chocolat if you fancy giving it a read here.

6) Colour Riche L'Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick
The Colour Riche L'Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick are quite a new releases from L'oreal and everyone seems to be having a little rave about them. They are like a balm, gloss and lipstick all wrapped into one little tube. They are pigmented mixed with oils I believe making them feel lovely on the lips. The name are also really cute, and all have something to do with music. It They are £8.99 each, and you can see all the shades and pick them up here if you fancy.

Let me know your favourite L'Oreal products in the comments! I really want to try more from the range, and I think True Match foundation might be next on my list.

Thanks for reading,

Rimmel Favourites | Top 10

Rimmel is one of my favourite drugstore brands. It really hits the nail on the head in so many sections like foundation, eyes and lips. It  is also really affordable, and almost always on offer in Boots or Superdrug. So, with that in mind today I have my top 10 Rimmel favourites.

Rimmel Favourites
  1. ScandalEyes Shadow Paint | £4.99 | Buy Here
The shadow paints are gorgeous cream/liquid eyeshadows that  don't need to  be set with another powder eyeshadow to last  all day crease free. They go on like a liquid mousse, blend really easily and stay in place after they have set. They don't crease on me, and they work well alone or as a base. I like the applicator, and its better than shoving a bacteria infested finger into a pot all the time. They are only £4.99 a go, and I would highly recommend the bronze and taupe brown shade they offer. The other colour offerings could be better, so I hope they release more in the future.
  2. Wake Me Up Foundation | £8.99 | Buy Here
I'm not sure I need to say much about this foundation. It's loved by many, and with good reason. It is afforable, good coverage, buildable, non drying and it just appears to perfect the skin. I find  it lasts well sans primer and powder but with a touch of powder it will be good for those who have oiler skin or want to knock out some of the glow. The shades do run a little dark, but the recent addition of Light Porcelain to the range really makes it great for my pale pals out there. The shade range would be better  if it did cater to darker skintones though, but that is problem with almost any brand not just Rimmel.
  3. Eyebrow Pencil | £2.99 | Buy HereI find the Rimmel eyebrow pencils to have  the perfect texture. They aren't to waxy,or try dry. You don't have to add to much pressure to get pigment on your brows and they last all day long. They help control the odd unruly brow hair I have, and they work well on the skin in bald areas and on the brow hairs. I  also find that they don't pull to red either which is great beacuse  red toned brows aren't always the most flattering. I do have one wish and that is they would introduce  a colour between hazel and dark brown. Hazel is just a touch to light for me and the dark drown is too dark, I can just a light hand with dark brown or a combo of the two but just a brunette shade in the middle would be great.
  4. Wake Me Up Concealer | £5.99 | Buy HereI love this concealer because I find that it works great under the eyes to  cover dark circles and to brighten the eyes but I think it also looks great on blemishes and redness to cover and conceal. I find that it lasts really well all day and if you dust a little powder under they eyes to set it, it  doesn't crease in a normal days wear. It is really inexpensive, the applicator is nice and like most other concealers but I do wish they had a larger shade range. I think there are only 4 shades at the moment, and I can just about get away with the lightest one.
  5. ScandalEyes Kohl Kajal Eyeliners | £3.99 | Buy Here
These liners are amazing. At just £3.99 a pencil, they are everything I want from a liner. They are smooth, creamy and glide onto the eye whether you wear them on you lash line or water line. They last ages and are incredibly pigmented. The nude and taupe colour are quite unique for the drugstore, at least here in the UK and the other colours they offer are great basics that anyone can use.
  6. BB Cream | £6.99 | Buy HereThe Rimmel BB cream is one of my favourite western BB Creams at the moment. It ties with the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream for my favourite.  I don't know if it does all the 9 things it claims, but it does offer a nice coverage for a bb cream and it does leave the skin feeling nice and moisturised. I've also used this as a tinted primer under other foundations and it worked well as that too. I love the addition of very light into the shade range, and I really want to try the Matte BB cream ASAP.
  7. Lasting Finish Matte Kate Moss Lipsticks | £5.49 | Buy HereThe Kate Moss Lipsticks from Rimmel are amazing, but I find the Matte range just that little bit more impressive. They aren't totally matte, and they don't make your lips feel drier than the Sahara desert. They leave a nice satin finish to lips, and they stay on for ages. The deeper and bolder shades last longer than the more nude, subtle shades, but overall they have a good lasting powder. They are inexpensive, the packaging is cute and they have a nice scent too. 107 is a great vampy shade, and 111 (Kiss of Life) is something I'm looking forward to trying this spring/summer.
  8. Colour Rush Balms | £5.99 | Buy HereThe colour rush balms are Rimmel's answer to the chubby stick craze. They are  smooth balm like chubby sticks that give the lips and nice sheer wash of colour on the lips while giving them a nice hit of moisture. The colours are nice, and for balm tints they last pretty well on the lips. The Nude shade is my favourite, but the others are really nice too.
  9. Moisture Renew Lipstick | £6.49 | Buy HereThe Moisture renew lipsticks are another lip product that Rimmel do well. I loved their old forumla, and I love the new formula too. They have a nice colour range, somewhat unique packaging and they glide on to the lips. They aren't as long lasting on the lips as the Kate Moss Lipsticks, but they last longer and are more pigmented than the Colour Rush balms. They shade range is excellent, and the names are really cute. In love with Ginger is a great orange shade for ka-pow lips.
  10. Stay Glossy Lip Glosses | £6.99 | Buy HereThese glosses are my most recent Rimmel discovery, and I'm in love. The stay glossy glossy are about £6.99 and are worth every penny. They are not sticky at all, really smooth on the lips and  have a nice shine to them. They have nice colours, a nice scent and last really well for non-sticky glosses. I love the light pink shades they offer, I can't  remember the name, and also love the Pop of Orange shade from the 3D Stay Glossy range.

Those are my top 10 Rimmel products, what do you love from the brand? Let me know in the comments, and I hope to see you soon!

Sharing The Blogging Love

You'll have to excuse the old picture, because Nailasaurus has had a stunning makeup. It's just a beautiful, clean looking blog with gorgeous posts. The pictures are stunning, the designs cool and tutorials helpful.

I'm sure I've featured Sara's blog in a previous favourite but It's staying on my top blog list. I think the design is great, the posts are interesting and have a nice mix of topics and I love the colour scheme of the blog too! Who doesn't love a bit of pink?

Good pictures, concise posts and a nice clean lay out make this blog an addictive read. I highly recommend checking this blog out and having a good ol' read.

Again, I need to apologize for the older picture. This blog has also had a bit of a change up in design. It still looks fabulous, and I really enjoy the pictures on here. Her post on Tanya Burrs Lipglosses is a great read.

July Favourites: HD Brows, Blood Brothers and Shane Dawson

So, it's August! How the hell did that happen? I swear it seems like it was New Years like 3 hours ago. I can't be dealing with time moving this fast! Anyway, now I've done the obligatory intro that everyone does, I'm going to get on with my July favourites.

Makeup and Hair

HD Brows Blusher (2) and Bronzer (2)

I've recently reviewed these, and since posting the reviews it's brought them to my attention again. I've been loving the blusher for adding a healthy and glowy flush to the skin, and the bronzer is great for contouring the face lightly and adding warmth to the skin tone. They both work for my pale skin, which is great and they last all day on my skin.

Le Kair Natural Carrot Oil Cholesterol Creme

I featured this in a haul post quite some time a go and also have a review up which you can read here. I brought this from a site that focused on Afro-Caribbean hair products, and fell in love. I've recently rediscovered this after trying out some other conditioners and realized how much I love it. I've used this as a hair mask and a leave in conditioner and it works well as both. It helps tame frizz, nourish hair and it doesn't smell awful either. It's also ridiculously cheap.

Maybelline BB Cream in Light

I think it's law that in summer, you must ditch foundation and head to the BB cream (or even CC creams now). Following the crowd, as I normally do, I ditched my believed Estee Lauder foundation that I normally wear every day and tried getting used to a bb cream. I've been loving this because the finish is great for my dry skin, and I've been using this when I'm not at work. I can't quite leave my Double Wear behind for work because I need to something to cover and last.

B. Eyeshadow Palette in Glisten

I've been loving subtle neutral eyes recently. I used to love super dark and intense eyes but for the summer I've been trying to ditch the black (it's really hard) and go with nice summery colours. These shadows are great for creating a nice eyeshadow look that you can see on the eyes but it's as harsh as some of my winter looks can be. The rusty brown colour is my favourite, but all of them together create a great look.

 Youtube

I've recently got right back into watching YouTube videos. I have gotten a better internet connection at home, and without uni I have spare time (too much!). I've been subscribed to Shane Dawson for ages, but I've never watched one of his videos.  I've started watching them, as despite the slightly offensive humour I find him hilarious. I prefer his vlog videos but he's a funny duck in just about all of them, vlog or main.

Music

I've recently discovered TwentyForSeven on YouTube. I don't know how I haven't been subscribed to them for ages but I'm not officially addicted to their music.  I found them after watching their very popular cover of Bruno Mars' When I Was Your Man but my all time favourite from them has to be the cover of Bad by The Cab or the 2012 Mash Up Song

I've always rediscovered my absolute love for the Foo Fighters. Wasting Light has got to be one of my favourite albums EVER.

Books

This month I've read (or at least started reading) two books! One I read in about 2 days at the end of the month. Blood Brothers is a very popular musical (I'm planning on writing up a post for my very new Book Blog) and was written by Willy Russell. I finally got a hold of a copy of this in book form and read it in two days. It's just as amazing in book form as it is on stage, and I highly suggest going to see it or reading it.

I've also been loving the latest addition to the Bloodlines series, which is a spin off of the Vampire Academy series. The Bloodlines series focuses more on Alchemists than vampires, but it just as great as the original series. I'm on the third book and am loving it. It might be worth checking out if you like YA reads.
