Soap and Glory Glad Hair Day Intensive Conditioner

 The Glad Hair Day Intensive Conditioner is one of the hair offerings from adored brand Soap and Glory and is the more intense of the two conditioners they currently sell. 



The Glad Hair Day range consists of a shampoo and an option of two conditioners. I choose the Intensive Conditioner because my hair is horrendously dry and damaged. It claims to be great for full, frizzy and fried hair, which couldn't describe mine any more if it tried. 

I thought it would be a great "everyday" conditioner that would help tame the frizzy mop that is my hair but sadly it didn't. 

This just doesn't work for me. I hate hating on soap and glory products because they are usually fabulous but this one just doesn't live up to quality of the other products. 



It's not horrific. It might work for people with normal hair but for frizzy hair (full or fried) it just does nothing. My hair is left somewhat soft after use but it's still super frizzy and almost like I didn't use a conditioner, let alone something entitled "Intensive Conditioner".

One upside, it smells amazing and the scent did stick around it my hair for a little while. I'm crap at describing scent, so I won't ever try but just trust me when I tell you it's nice. 

You can pick up the Soap and Glory Glad Hair Day Intensive Conditioner from Boots stores or online here for £5.50 if you want to give it a try. I can see it working for people with normal hair, but I wouldn't go for this if you have dry/damaged and frizzy hair.

Palmers Olive Oil Formula Replenishing Conditioner

The Palmer's Olive Oil Formula Replenishing Conditioner claims to be a frizzy haired girls best friend. It is meant to smooth out frizz, increase moisture level and soften tight curls. It's meant to leave hair shiner,  less frizzy, easy to style and softer with an extra bounce. 

The Extra Virgin Olive Oil, in combination with Soybean Oil and Keratin Amino Acids help this replenishing conditioner do it's job and it's meant to help protect the hair from the environment and heat styling tools. 



I picked this up in hopes that I would find a great conditioner  that did everything I wanted. I need something to smooth frizz, loosen curls (weigh down hair?) and add shine. This claimed to do all of those so I snapped it up right away. I also wanted something that was going to be safe to use on my colour treated hair, and this claims to be.  

For £3.99, this is a pretty decent conditioner but for some reason I expected more. It's good, don't get me wrong. It does help smooth out frizz, but I didn't notice any difference in the 'bounce' of my hair or the tightness of my curls. I tend not to use heat on my hair to often, so I can't comment on it's protective qualities but it did keep hair nearly frizz free until my next wash.

 

It didn't have the best scent in the world, but I think that might be because I was used to the lovely coconut scent of my holy grail Superdrug conditioner (review here). The good thing was that the scent didn't linger in my hair after washing, so it really didn't matter to me all that much. 

 

 

It is worth noting that the formula is sulphate and paraben free which is great. I haven't ever really found a conditioner that works on my hair that is paraben free, so I'm glad I have this as an option now.  

Overall, I would recommend this for people with dry and damaged hair. I think it might be a bit to much for people (as an everyday conditioner) who have normal to greasy hair. It's not going to fix all hair sins, but it does help give the hair a healthier looks so I would recommend giving this a go. July Favourites: HD Brows, Blood Brothers and Shane Dawson

So, it's August! How the hell did that happen? I swear it seems like it was New Years like 3 hours ago. I can't be dealing with time moving this fast! Anyway, now I've done the obligatory intro that everyone does, I'm going to get on with my July favourites. 

Makeup and Hair

HD Brows Blusher (2) and Bronzer (2) 

I've recently reviewed these, and since posting the reviews it's brought them to my attention again. I've been loving the blusher for adding a healthy and glowy flush to the skin, and the bronzer is great for contouring the face lightly and adding warmth to the skin tone. They both work for my pale skin, which is great and they last all day on my skin.

Le Kair Natural Carrot Oil Cholesterol Creme

 I featured this in a haul post quite some time a go and also have a review up which you can read here. I brought this from a site that focused on Afro-Caribbean hair products, and fell in love. I've recently rediscovered this after trying out some other conditioners and realized how much I love it. I've used this as a hair mask and a leave in conditioner and it works well as both. It helps tame frizz, nourish hair and it doesn't smell awful either. It's also ridiculously cheap.

Maybelline BB Cream in Light 

I think it's law that in summer, you must ditch foundation and head to the BB cream (or even CC creams now). Following the crowd, as I normally do, I ditched my believed Estee Lauder foundation that I normally wear every day and tried getting used to a bb cream. I've been loving this because the finish is great for my dry skin, and I've been using this when I'm not at work. I can't quite leave my Double Wear behind for work because I need to something to cover and last.

B. Eyeshadow Palette in Glisten 

I've been loving subtle neutral eyes recently. I used to love super dark and intense eyes but for the summer I've been trying to ditch the black (it's really hard) and go with nice summery colours. These shadows are great for creating a nice eyeshadow look that you can see on the eyes but it's as harsh as some of my winter looks can be. The rusty brown colour is my favourite, but all of them together create a great look.

I've recently got right back into watching YouTube videos. I have gotten a better internet connection at home, and without uni I have spare time (too much!). I've been subscribed to Shane Dawson for ages, but I've never watched one of his videos.  I've started watching them, as despite the slightly offensive humour I find him hilarious. I prefer his vlog videos but he's a funny duck in just about all of them, vlog or main.

I've recently discovered TwentyForSeven on YouTube. I don't know how I haven't been subscribed to them for ages but I'm not officially addicted to their music.  I found them after watching their very popular cover of Bruno Mars' When I Was Your Man but my all time favourite from them has to be the cover of Bad by The Cab or the 2012 Mash Up Song. 

I've always rediscovered my absolute love for the Foo Fighters. Wasting Light has got to be one of my favourite albums EVER. 

Books

This month I've read (or at least started reading) two books! One I read in about 2 days at the end of the month. Blood Brothers is a very popular musical (I'm planning on writing up a post for my very new Book Blog) and was written by Willy Russell. I finally got a hold of a copy of this in book form and read it in two days. It's just as amazing in book form as it is on stage, and I highly suggest going to see it or reading it. 

I've also been loving the latest addition to the Bloodlines series, which is a spin off of the Vampire Academy series. The Bloodlines series focuses more on Alchemists than vampires, but it just as great as the original series. I'm on the third book and am loving it. It might be worth checking out if you like YA reads.

Why You Shouldn't Buy The John Frieda Go Blonder Range *updated*

I'm not one to shy away from a negative review. I think they are just as helpful as a review telling you something is the best thing in the world. I think it's great to know what NOT to buy too. Today, I have something really negative to share with you all and for one I actually feel a bit bad about it. 

Sorry for the negativity, and sorry for the long post but I wanted to say everything rather than leaving something out.

The Product

  
I've recently ombred my hair, and because of that I decided to pick up some hair care products targets at blondes. the John Frieda Go Blonder range was on offer in Superdrug and it seemed to be targets at what I wanted. I picked up the shampoo, conditioner and lightening spray to try out on the ends of my hair. 

I used the products on my hair, and at first they seemed fine.  They weren't amazing, but they did the job of washing my hair. I didn't have an immediate reactions, and it didn't cause any irritation when I actually washed my hair and left the conditioner to sit in the ends for a few minutes.  I used the spray sparingly through the very ends of my hair, blow dried them and then pinned my hair our of my face and away from my neck and chest so I could sleep. 

The Reaction

I went off the bed, happy as larry but in the morning I noticed that a rash was appearing all over my check and neck area. I honestly didn't take that much notice of it and went of to work. At work the rash for considerably worse and began to feel like it was burning alongside a constant itching feeling. I'm quite lucky that I work in a place that has a pharmacy and I was able to get some advice on what to do to calm it down. They gave me some cream to calm the rash down and some cooling aqueous and calamine cream to sooth the burning down.  She then suggested that if the rash were to remain overnight that I should get some steroid cream to try and help it. It's calmed down a little since then, but it still itches like mad, is very red and the burning sensation is still noticeable. 

I can only say that I'm so glad I only used this on my ends. I can't even imagine what my scalp would be like now had I used it all over my head.  I won't be using these again, and it really puts me off trying other products from the range. If I got this reaction from these products, will I get the same from the others?

The pharmisist suggested that it could be an allergic reaction (something I've NEVER experienced before with any kind of product) or some kind of chemical burn. I was so freaked out by that idea that I decided to call the help line to see if they could offer me any advice on what could cause this reaction and if they had heard of anyone else experiencing this problem. I was hoping they could tell me how to calm down the reaction. 
 
I have changed nothing else in my routine either for my hair, face or body so it can only be these products causing this reaction.

Awful Customer Service

I wasn't going to post a review of these products. I was quite content with the idea getting a little help from the help line that the company advertise on the back of their products.  I called the help line, and was on hold for a little over an hour. At that time I had to give up because I had to go to work. I called once and was disconnected after about 20 minutes, and then called again. The second time I called I was told that I was first in the queue, and that someone would be with me shortly. That NEVER happened. I was told about 10 times in the 40 minutes wait that I was first in the queue but all I heard was the quite 'on hold' music playing down then phone. I was so disappointed that I just felt I should write a post. Maybe this is the way I'll get the help I wanted. 

After having no success over the phone I tried to find an email address but could only find a contact form on their website. I filled it in with all my details (they asked for everything from my address to my phone number) and detailed my issues, and linked my blog post. I thought I might get some kind of helpful response here  but all I got back (a fair ol' few day later) was a generic response telling me to call them. Now, that makes no sense to me. The main thing in my email was complaining about the hour I was on the phone and they tell me to call again. Ermm, what? 

I then tried to tweeting them! I asked for a direct email address and got the same response as I did the email. They just told me to call again. I tweeted that I didn't have the time to call and wait on hold for another hour and that my email was to complain about the poor customer service. I've had no response since, so I'm at a loss of what to do.

It might have taken me kicking up a bit of a fuss but I have got somewhere with the company. I got a package in the post which included a envelope and a medical survey asking about my reaction. I filled it in and sent the products off to them. A few days later I got a call. 

I was happy that someone had taken the time to call, but it was a bit like to little to late. Sure, I accepted their apology and I suppose the excuse that phone lines were busy is acceptable. They very nicely explained about their product testing and that reactions were rare. I didn't really get any help as to what could have set off the reaction but they did tell me they didn't want to speculate as it could be anything. 

They kindly offered to send me some replacement products from sister brands as they didnt want me to react to any more of their products. 

It was kind of them to replace them, but I can't help but think it wouldn't have happened if I hasn't have posted and complained about it quite as much as I did.

I am still put off using other products from the brand, so I think I'll stick to my current shampoo and I'll continue to love Friz Ease  but I don't think I'll be trying  anything new anytime soon. 

I still highly doubt I was in the first position in the queue if I received no answer for the hour I was on the phone. If you are not going to answer the phone, or don't have the staff to monitor the call centre then please do not advertise the number of the back of all your products. 

Thanks for essentially giving me my money back but I still can't say I'm a huge fan!

Herbalife Herbal Aloe Stregthening Shampoo and Conditioner

Herbalife Herbal Aloe Strengthening Shampoo and Conditioner (link), £9.22 250ml.

The sulphate and paraben free shampoo claims to strength hair, reduce breakage, preserve color and protect hair. The conditioner carries similar claims also preserving colour, strengthening hair and leaving it feeling it feeling silkier. Each bottle is 250ml in size, and they are £9.22 each. 


The Herbal Aloe Strengthening Shampoo (link) is a nice shampoo. I can't say it was something that was stand out amazing, but it also wasn't bad in any way. The sulphate and paraben free formula was something of a worry for me at first because I love my shampoo to lather up a lot but this didn't disappoint. The first wash seemed a little lack luster in the lather department but when I rinsed through my second wash it lathered up like a dream. 



The two washes ensured that my hair was nice and clean and I loved that it didn't leave my hair feeling dry. Many shampoos, even ones claiming to be moisturizing, leave my hair feeling drier than before but this just left it feeling really clean.




The Herbal Aloe Strengthening Conditioner (link) was the stand out product in this duo. As soon as I applied the product to my hair, I knew it was going to be a good one. Conditioner is something very hit and miss with me. I have colour treated, dry frizzy hair that is hard to tame. It usually take a deep conditioner for  it to feel nourished, but this worked brilliantly. 

It smoothed onto my hair easily, smelled nice and left my hair feeling soft. I won't say it cured all my hair sins, but it really helps and I love that it's a strengthening formula and good for colour treated hair. 


 
The products didn't do anything to aid the deterioration of my coloured hair. I have died red/purple hair, so the colour fades fast. These products seems to work just as well as specific coloured hair products, and left my hair feeling silkier. 

Overall, I think these products are great. It's great to find something that is sulphate free and paraben free that actually works for my hair. The colour preserving formula is an added bonus to an already great list of credentials these hair products carry.

LeKair Natural Carrot Oil Cholesterol Creme is a hair treatment that contains rich vitamins and cholesterol to treat damaged and chemically treated hair. It's meant to leave hair silky smooth and generally in a better condition. 

The directions on the tub say that it's a leave in treatment but after some research I found that it can be used both as a leave in treatment and  as a deep conditioning mask that you wash out. 



This product, and others of it's type, are traditionally sold and marketed toward Afro-Caribbean hair but after trying many products for my hair type and them failing me I thought I would try something a little more intense. 

I found Love Afro Cosmetics when looking for a Plamer's conditioner, and decided to pick this up along with some Hair Vitalizer. It was only £1.95 for a huge tub. 


 
It looks scary when you first open then tub, the bright orange colour can be scary but after rubbing the product into damp hair I found that the colour disappears. It goes into the hair beautifully, and doesn't leave it feeling heavy or greasy is you use it as a leave in treatment. 



I use this as a mask about once a week and I love it. It's not quite as amazing and I thought it would be but it does leave my hair feeling significantly less frizzy, well moisturized and in better condition than it was before. 
  
I use this a leave on treatment every time I was my hair. I find that using this in the ends and lengths of my hair when it's wet makes it easier to style and less frizzy when it dries. It helps define my curls and leaves it feeling nice and soft. 

For the price, this is brilliant. You get a huge amount of product, and it really helps with my hair. If you have really dry and damaged hair, or colour treated hair, I would highly recommend this to you.

Superdrug Coconut & Sweet Almond Intensive Conditioner

Isn't it always great when you find a brilliant product for a really cheap price? It makes the fact it's good just all that much better. This is probably one of the best bargains I've ever found. 

Superdrug Coconut & Sweet Almond Intensive Conditioner, 375ml, £1.49

The Superdrug Coconut & Sweet Almond Intensive Conditioner is a very thick conditioner for dry/damaged hair. It says it adds moisture and shine to the hair and it smells pretty awesome too. 
The product is very thick, and has a slight shimmer to it. It looks nice, but it doesn't make your hair glitter or anything like that so fear not. I have extremely dry hair, and I use this all through my hair from root to tip. For people who have normal hair, or oily hair it might be best to keep this to root application. 


It works well as a quick conditioner left in for just a minute or two, but it also works brilliantly as a mask if you leave it on for 15 - 20 minutes. It leaves my hair feeling silky soft, keep frizz at bay and leaves my hair smelling lovely. 

The best part about this is the fact that you can pick it for anywhere between 99p to £1.49. The price seems to vary every time I pick it up, but it's never more than £1.50, and it's usually on some kind of offer so you can get two for the price of 1. 


Because the Superdrug brand is cruelty free, this obviously is. It's carry's the BUAV approved logo, and also carries the Superdrug 100% Happiness Return Guarantee. This is a great scheme in my opinion because even if you've tried something from their own label brand, you can take it back if it doesn't meet your expectations. 

I would highly recommend picking this up if you haven't tried it. It's super cheap and it actually works! It also has a regular conditioner and shampoo in the range that are really nice as well. The Shampoo lathers up really well, and the conditioner is a nice, lighter version of this if you need it.
