Exciting New Drugstore Makeup Releases (UK Edition)

So, I'm sure nearly every young girl and blogger now knows about this next release and have just about wet themselves over it. One Direction are releasing a capsule makeup line with bargain makeup brand MUA (Makeup Academy). The line is called Little things and feature lip balms, lipsticks and nail polish all apparently inspired by the cult boy band.  

Please don't shot me, but I don't get the one direction phenomenon but I am a HUGE fan of MUA so I'd love to see if the standard is just a high as they currently are or if the One Direction name is going to carry the collection.  



The Lipsticks look pretty awesome and are probably what I'm going to try and get my hands on. I hope, working where they sell MUA, that I could possibly get my hands on it before the prepubescent girls run in store screaming. I kind of hope I'm lying about that but you never know. We had a Justin Bebier stand when his fragrance launched first time around, and no word of a lie there were 13 - 15 year olds kissing the cardboard cut out and some evern went as far as to simulate giving the PIECE OF CARD and blow job while someone else filmed it on their smart phone.

WHAT?!?!?!?!  

I just cannot even...

Baby Lips. They have finally reached the UK and everyone is going a little mental. We put them out at work the other day and one girl actually screamed at them. I wish I was exaggerating or lying, but I'm not. She just about had a melt down and brought every shade/treatment type, even after I told her that if she waited until Wednesday, she would get them cheaper as Maybelline is going on 3 for 2 in Superdrug from then. 

Anyway, they are here and I'm assume all bloggers are going to go bat crap crazy over them like the Americans did. They are good, I have two, but not quite worth the INSANE hype they have buzzing around them. 



 Revlon, a brand that everyone loves at least one thing from, has a new mascara releasing. The Lash Potion has been out in the states for sometime I think but it's just hitting stores in the UK and I think I might give it a go. I've never tried as mascara from the brand so this might my first foray into that. The packaging looks really nice, I love the name and I've heard some great things about it. 




I'm shocked the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Stick is hitting the UK so quick after hitting the US market. WE had to wait so long for some of the most hyped up things like the aforementioned Baby Lips and Colour Tattoos. It even took quite a while for the Fit Me Range to reach this little island but the Fit Me Shine Free Foundation stick is already here. I'm not sure if I'm going to invest because the reviews I've seen haven't hated on it but they haven't raved about it either. I'll wait for the tester in-store and see what it's like!  

I'm sure there are many more releases hitting the UK drugstores/highstreet soon but these stood out to me. I know L'Oreal have some more colours of their False Lash Flutter mascara that are meant to enhance certian eye colours but I hate the wand so I won't be checking those out.  Bourjois' version of the Lip Butters from Revlon are hitting the shelves if they haven't already and they are really nice. I've tried some of the testers are work, and they are even better than I thought they would be.

Sally Hansen Salon Effect Nail Polish Strips

Sally Hansen Salon Effect Nail Polish Strips claim to give you nails instant salon effect without any drying time. They are meant to wear just like nail polish except they are free of the drying time you get with normal polish. They claim to last up to 10 days, are easy to remove and they come in about 40 different styles. 

I picked these up in TK Maxx for just £3.99 when they usually retail for --. I's heard some great things, and some not so great things about these and wanted to give them a go. 

I've never used anything like this before so I followed the instructions down to a tee and at first they applied okay, but after an hour of wear they started to come off. They edges were peeling, little bits were chipping off and they were just a general annoyance. 

I'm not sure if they didn't work because I have bad nails, or if I did something wrong when applying them but they just didn't work for me. I managed to get a picture just after applying so you can see they were okay at first but they were all gone after an hour because I had to pull them off after they started peeling. 

For me these just aren't worth the money. I would rather get something like imPress nails or just plain ol' nail polish.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure | 540 Frutti Petutie

This polish is meant to be all 5 steps of a manicure in one little bottle. A nail polish for those busy people, if you will. It has patented ‘Vita Care Technology (whatever that is), and it’s meant to be for long wear, shine and nourishment. 

 Now, I’m not really a nail fanatic like some people. For one, I bite my nails (I know huge sin)  and two I would rather spend my money on an extra lipstick than a nail polish.

 However, I do pick some up every now and then and keep them in my collection when they come free in mags and beauty boxes. I don't really have anything to compare this too but  it’s a nice polish! It wears for a decent amount of time, but I put a chip resistant top coat over so I’m not sure if it was the top coat or the polish. The colour is absolutely beautiful too. I’d say give it a go if you’re on the lookout for a nice coral pink.

The bottle itself suggests that the user applies two coats (which I think is reasonable) on to clean and dry nails (duhh!) and then that you allow it to dry (Now is that really necessary to put on a bottle? Surly people clever enough to manage to purchase the product, realize they have to wait for it to dry. It’s like putting may contain nuts on a bag a nuts!)

 Anyway,  this is what it looks like and you get 14.7ml for £6.99 in Superdrug.

Hot Looks Collection 2000

Collection Hot Looks Fast Dry Nail Polish in Big Hair, Lemon Soda and BMX Bandit, £1.99 link.

These polishes are meant to be bright, on trend, fast drying and highly glossy.That's quite a lot to live up to especially considering they are only £1.99 a bottle. I don't think they quite live up to these claims but they aren't terrible. For the price, they are actually quite good.

The colours are nice, but I wouldn't say they are specifically on trend. They don't tend to release new colours for the seasons. I have the shades Big Hair (red) , BMX Bandit (blue) and Lemon Soda (pale yellow). The blue and yellow separate really easily which was a disappointment but when they are mixed together they, for me, are better than the red in formulation. The red is a lot more liquid-y, while the other two are much more creamy and easy to apply.

The yellow is by far the worst, in my opinion. As with most yellow shades, , not just this one, it takes at least three coats to get a semi-good coverage without a super streaky finish. The first coat looks more terrible that you can imagine but if you have the patients to persevere you can get an okay colour out of it. 

The blue is a little patchy, but you can totally work with it without as much hassle as the yellow. The red, while a little running for my liking, is the best in terms of coverage. Two coats of Big Hair and you're good to go! 

The quick drying claims made by Collection (previously Collection 2000) is semi true. It takes quite a while to dry, but not as long as others. It's quicker than Barry M polishes which I like but it's not a quick as something like the L'Oreal Colour Riche polishes. It's most definitely doesn't take the 60 seconds it claims.  

You get 8ml for your money, and they are quite often included in some kind of offer. The bottles are cute and not to big. I they are great for nail polish hoarders because they aren't to big and expensive that they go to waist. 

Collection suggests that you use a base coat and that two coats will give maximum colour intensity. The two coats is a debatable claim for some shades but, it works for others. 

Overall, they are okay polishes that are great if you want to build up a big collection because they are cheap but they aren't the greatest quality and I would rather pay a little more for something from Topshop or L'Oreal and all round brilliant polish.

NOTD: Models Own Lemon Meringue

You will have to excuse the horrid photos and the bad nails but I wanted to share this with you because it's gorgeous! This probably isn't the most season appropriate colour but it's the perfect pastel yellow colour that isn't streaky and it only needs 2 coats to look good!

I adore this polish! I will admit that it looks better on people with tan skin but with my ghostly pale skin I'm still going to rock this colour because it's gorgeous! I won't say much more because I wanted this to be a quick post, but I would highly recommend this colour/polish.

Revlon Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel in Electric

I recently picked up this polish in my local Boots, in hope that it would help me end my search for a bright yellow polish that went on opaque and didn't streak. It didn't.

This nail polish promises and "a salon-smooth finish" because of the "built in top coat" and to "set in 60 seconds."  

Well, no. Sorry Revlon but the that's just not true. It doesn't set in 60 seconds, and really isn't fast drying at all. It dried about as fast as Barry M polishes do. If you have the patients to put on 4 or 5 coats, then you might get that salon smooth finish but I just can't be asked to do that. 

I've never tried Revlon polishes before this and it hasn't encouraged me to try more. I brought this without looking up any reviews because, considering the great reviews I've seen, it would be a good choice. I wish I had looked it up before spending £6.49 on it.

The formula is really watery and it streaked like nothing else. It's not opaque and it's just not great overall. I'm not a fan of the brush, which is really skinny and I just overall regret buying it. If you have the patients for putting on about 4 or 5 coats, it could work for you but I just don't have that kind of patients or time.

I'm really gutted that it didn't work out because I want that perfect bright yellow polish and this looked perfect. If you're interested in this, you can find it here!

NOTD: L'Oreal Color Riche Mauve Rendezvous

Not much of a talking post but here is a quick nail of the day post!

I managed to take some pictures on my iPad so sorry about the quality. If you read my last post you'll know that my camera (also my phone) is broken so I can't take many pictures right now.

But, I love this polish. Two coats is more than enough and you don't really need a top coat because it's super glossy (and there is a top coats already mixed into this bad boy).
